At least on Twitter the posts which are paid-for are clearly marked as 'promoted' but in the Newsfeed it's all very opaque. We're just left to guess which posts are paid for and which are genuine. And I'm also disappointed that I don't receive as many 'Hand-made by Bee' posts as I used to!David R. It would seem FB wants me to pay for this luxury.

I am getting quite annoyed at the amount of advertising that is slap bang in the middle of my newsfeed too. It's right there in the middle of my family and friends updates and I don't like it at all. Hardly any of the posts in my newsfeed are by my friends, but from the various pages that I 'liked'- usually the bigger companies who can pay to promote their posts and get them out there. This means that I 'unliked' those pages and disabled the rest from being shown. The ads, sadly are still there.

The strange thing is that I find when we complain about this sort of thing, they usually always say the same thing- It's a free to use service and with that comes ads. Its as though we should feel humble that we are able to use FB for free and that we must put up with the ads if we want this to continue. I just feel there is a limit, right? All down the side was okay. Being able to connect with my favourite brands, services, restaurants is also okay- this sort of thing led to me buying stuff on occasion. But in my newsfeed? Not okay. How can you say if a company bullies then it becomes un cool (Oracle has been doing it day in and day out- the reason it bought SUN)? I dont understand the reason why you compare Microsoft with apple? The core competency of Microsoft remains litigation, and lobbying! Apple is not a similiar company! And how do you connect uncoolness aspect to valuation? Valuation of a company is determined by its future cash flows, future cash flows esp for apple is determined by its future product portfolio. I dont see why people wont buy apple products just because it bullies some other company?

2. I agree to your point on Samsungs role in Apple Supply chain. But things are changing. Apple is slowly reducing its reliance on Samsung. I think you should have discussed about it.

3. Apple did revolutionary innovations? Is it? Really? Right from Digital music players, smart phones to tablets everything well existed in the market even before Apple thought about it. Apple just presented it well and captured the imagination of consumers. Apple just stuck to its core competency- design. Yea I agree with you that Apple doesnt look to come out with a new product portfolio thats completely different from its existing ones! Also I dont think Apple should look at things that are scientifically advanced like femto ( Thats google job). Apple rather should look on revolutionizing some other industry using its design and technology!

S.Jeevahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13381519968913106363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-9996212816490499902012-04-09T18:08:30.580-07:002012-04-09T18:08:30.580-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.microchipsdoghttp://www.zoomroomonline.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-88462029739771563772011-12-01T15:33:18.607-08:002011-12-01T15:33:18.607-08:00You raise an excellent point: the problem the supe...You raise an excellent point: the problem the super-sewer aims to solve isn't so much sewage, it's actually rainwater causing the sewers to overflow. Now, one may also remember that every so often, there are also issues with flooding and periods of draughts.

How stupid is it, in this day and age, to continue to shove rainwater down the sewers where it gets polluted and causes overflows, when it could be collected and recycled instead (by the way TW admit that the super-sewer will do nothing to reduce flooding - check BBC news on the Milwaukee Super-Sewer).

As a prominent public study put it recently: The main lack of space for retrofitting Green Infrastructure into existing cityscapes is in the heads of the people who should be doing it.Save Your Riversidehttp://www.saveyourriverside.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-10897471714605225512011-11-30T17:16:09.944-08:002011-11-30T17:16:09.944-08:00I was going to argue that it makes sense that the ...I was going to argue that it makes sense that the public help foot the bill, but on further reflection I am slightly concerned that an infrastructure issue on this scale should fall into the hands of a private company. One then has to question whether the chosen solution will be more convenient for the people or for the company itself.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-19168922179777051222011-10-30T04:02:54.381-07:002011-10-30T04:02:54.381-07:00That is a really interesting point, Rob.
A furth...That is a really interesting point, Rob.

A further problem as I see it is that the promotion of energy efficiency initiatives is primarily the responsibility of the energy companies themselves. This leaves them with a clear conflict of interest, as they earn more the more energy gets used. I think some clever regulation of prices might help get round that but in the mean time lots of energy efficiency technologies are not receiving the attention they deserve from consumers.David R. I'...Interesting article David, thanks for this. I'm looking into future development of our national grid as part of my research. Apparently we British pay fairly low electricity tariffs compared to the continent (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_tariff). I read that when we bring a lot of wind power on-grid in the UK, that our electricity cables stretching to the continent may be important in bringing electricity to meet peaks in demand when the wind generation is lower due to weather.
The caveat is that this electricity will only flow with the correct 'price signals'. Presumably this means electricity tariffs here will have to converge with France, Germany or other countries where cost is greater.Rob Rainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00169180332405276224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-23622776143872663732011-10-07T03:17:33.264-07:002011-10-07T03:17:33.264-07:00It's always easy to look back at world events ...It's always easy to look back at world events and find people who opposed them and turned out to be right, but that doesn't mean that their objections were well-founded at the time. If I said I'd opposed the Euro on the grounds that I thought pound coins were more aesthetically pleasing, that doesn't make my advice worth listening to in the future.

If you're right, and simple folk wisdom is correct more often than the currently fashionable complex theories, I'd still contend that we shouldn't blindly follow Grandma's advice next time. Instead, we should be trying to identify which elements of Grandma's thinking give her the edge over the professional economists, and build some new predictive theories based on these.Deccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17354801152786550543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-54978291054991259212011-09-06T13:51:52.733-07:002011-09-06T13:51:52.733-07:00The argument you used in EE lighting is bit of a m...The argument you used in EE lighting is bit of a moo point. It applies specifically to a building that uses electric heaters and that requires heating all year long. Any building that requires heating for only some days of the year would reduce its total energy consumption by switching to EE lighting. Furthermore, heat dissipated from light bulbs cannot be controlled. Hence even in a building that has electric heater and requires heating all year long, you would still in most circumstances want to switch to EE lighting.ssnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2766189576050977240.post-86730377161340926882011-05-07T03:49:52.600-07:002011-05-07T03:49:52.600-07:00What strikes me is how many other sites like these...What strikes me is how many other sites like these haven't been found around the world, we could be sitting ontop of a huge cavern of ancient history and wouldn't even know about it.DuckingFickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07544385677145729052noreply@blogger.com
